President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commissioned twenty boreholes under the presidential borehole scheme to alleviate water challenges in the dormitory town of Chitungwiza.
The first batch of 20 boreholes sunk and installed with solar pumping systems under the Presidential Borehole Scheme has been commissioned in Chitungwiza.
The development is set to alleviate water challenges in Chitungwiza which have been subjected to poor service delivery for more than 20 years by the opposition-run local authority.
The borehole drilling programme is being spearheaded by a group of diasporans who took heed of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to assist in developing the country.
“As Prevail group we heeded the call by President Mnangagwa to develop our motherland and we have so far drilled 20 boreholes which will assist the Chitungwiza community,” said Paul Tungwarara, Group Chief Executive Officer for Prevail Group.
Speaking after commissioning the boreholes, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the project will be replicated in other suburbs to ensure the availability of safe and clean water.

“We have secured investors from Dubai willing to partner the Government in availing clean water to the people. I engaged them, and they said what do you want us to do and I said we want clean water. In a short space of time they responded by sinking boreholes, which we are launching today. I have commissioned the water project to ensure that you have clean water. We have done 20 boreholes so far and they will be structured the same way, after Chitungwiza we will ensure that other suburbs across the country also benefit. We need you to safeguard these structures to ensure that you continue receiving clean and safe water,” said the President.
President Mnangagwa is delivering on his promises to the people of Zimbabwe through availing clean and safe water as well as constructing major roads under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme.
